Here’s how to edit a pin on Pinterest: open the pin from your profile, click the three dots, choose Edit Pin, change the title, description, link or board, then save. That takes thirty seconds. What takes longer is knowing what not to change. Pinterest’s help center says the image can’t be edited after publishing, and a new link quietly resets the stats you see on the pin.

How to edit a pin on Pinterest on desktop

  1. Click your profile picture at the top right and find the pin under Pins or on its board.
  2. Open the pin and click the three dots (the ellipsis icon).
  3. Choose Edit Pin.
  4. Change what you need: title, description, link, board, section or comment settings, depending on the pin.
  5. Click Save.

How to edit a pin in the Pinterest app

  1. Tap your profile picture at the bottom right.
  2. Open the pin you want to change.
  3. Tap the three dots in the top right corner, then the edit option.
  4. Update the fields and tap Done.

“Depending on the pin” is Pinterest’s own wording. What you’re allowed to change varies with how the pin was made, which is why one pin shows a link field and the next doesn’t.

Why the Edit Pin option is missing

  • It isn’t your pin. You can only edit pins you created. A pin you saved from someone else stays as they made it, even on your board.
  • It was saved with the browser button. Pinterest says links on pins saved from Pinterest or through the browser button can’t be updated.
  • The pin type limits it. Some formats allow fewer edits. If a field is missing, it’s locked.

Title still wrong after you saved it? Your website’s Rich Pin data may be replacing it. We go through that and six other causes in Pinterest title not showing.

Does editing a pin hurt it?

Editing the words: no, as far as anyone has shown. A responder in Pinterest’s business community put it simply: you can edit your title and description after publishing, and Pinterest doesn’t penalize it. Fixing a vague description on a pin that gets impressions but no clicks is one of the cheapest improvements on Pinterest. Just don’t stuff it with keywords while you’re there; our guide on keywords in Pinterest descriptions shows how many is enough.

Editing the link is a different matter. Pinterest staff have explained it in the same community several times: when you change a pin’s destination URL, the system treats it as a new version of the pin for analytics, so impressions, clicks and saves can show as zero. The old engagement isn’t deleted; it’s tied to the old pin-and-link pair, and it comes back if you switch the link back. Staff have also said that editing links can remove earlier reactions and comments from the pin.

Rule of thumb: edit the text freely, move boards freely, and change a link only when the old one is broken or wrong.

Moved your blog to a new domain? Changed your Etsy shop name? Pinterest has no bulk edit for links, and editing hundreds of pins one by one isn’t realistic. One seller in Pinterest’s community found they could only change a handful of links a day before getting errors (an anecdote, not an official rule). Pinterest’s own advice is better: set up redirects on your website, so every old URL forwards to its new address. Every pin, including the copies other people saved, then lands in the right place without touching it.

You can, however, move or delete several pins at once. Open a board and use its organize option to select pins and move them to another board or section.

Editing scheduled pins

Scheduling guides report that a pin waiting in Pinterest’s own scheduler can still be changed before it goes out: date, title, description, link and board. The image is the exception there too, so a wrong picture means deleting the scheduled pin and making it again. In third-party schedulers, each tool has its own editor; Tailwind, for example, lets you change the title, description, URL and board of a pin that hasn’t been published yet.

Edit the old pin or make a new one?

SituationDo this
Typo, vague description, missing keywordEdit the pin
Wrong boardEdit the pin (move it)
Broken or wrong linkEdit the link, or redirect the old URL
Different keyword or angleMake a new pin
Better imageMake a new pin

New pins aren’t a consolation prize. Pinterest favors fresh images, and a page can carry several pins aimed at different searches. Our guide to how many pins to post per day covers the pace.

Check the new text before you save

An edit is a second chance to get the text right, so check it. SiteToSocial’s free Pin Preview & SEO Checker counts your title, description and alt text against the limits and checks the keyword, with no limit on use. Need new wording? Its title and description generator writes five versions on searched keywords; the Pinterest description generator guide compares it with the alternatives. And if fixing old pins one by one sounds like your whole weekend, SiteToSocial’s paid plans publish fresh, correctly written pins for every page instead, which is why it heads our list of the best Pinterest automation tools.

Frequently asked questions

How do you edit a pin on Pinterest?

Open the pin from your profile, click or tap the three dots, choose Edit Pin, change the title, description, link or board, and save. Pinterest notes that the fields you can edit depend on how the pin was created.

Can you change the image of a pin after posting?

No. Pinterest does not let you change a pin's image, video or audio once it is published. Create a new pin with the new image instead.

Does editing a pin's description hurt its performance?

There is no sign that it does. A Pinterest community responder has said you can edit titles and descriptions after publishing without a penalty. Changing the link is different: Pinterest treats it as a new version of the pin for analytics.

Why did my pin stats reset to 0 after editing?

Most likely because the link changed. Pinterest staff explain that stats are tracked per pin and link, so a new link starts counting from zero. The old engagement is not deleted and reappears if you switch back to the original link.

Can you bulk edit pins on Pinterest?

No. Pinterest has no bulk edit for titles, descriptions or links. You can move or delete several pins at once from a board, and when your website moves, redirects from old URLs to new ones fix every pin at once.

Why can't I edit a pin?

You can only edit pins you created. Pins you saved from someone else, or through the browser button, cannot be changed. Some pin types also limit which fields you can edit.
