The Pinterest Trends tool (trends.pinterest.com) shows what people search, save and shop for on Pinterest, and when. It’s free with a business account. Use it for timing: it tells you that Christmas gift searches start climbing in August, that “casual blazer outfits” is rising right now, and who is doing the searching. What it won’t give you is a monthly search number. For that, and for trend data in 16 languages, pair it with SiteToSocial’s free Pinterest Keyword Tool.

  1. Set the country your audience lives in. Trends differ a lot by country, and a search that’s rising in the US can be flat in the UK.
  2. Scan the growing trends table. Filter by interest (food, home, beauty…), age or gender, or include a word like “dinner” to see only rising searches that contain it.
  3. Search your own keyword and read the autocomplete while you type. It’s free keyword research.
  4. Add up to three more phrases to the chart. “Christmas gift ideas” against “birthday gift ideas” shows instantly which is bigger and when each peaks.
  5. Read the seasonality. Note the month the line starts climbing, not the month it peaks. That’s your publishing date.
  6. Open related trends and top pins. They give you second keywords and show which formats win: lists, step-by-steps, product shots.
  7. Check the audience. A trend driven by 18-to-24-year-olds is a poor fit if your buyers are 45.

How to read the numbers without fooling yourself

Pinterest Trends is easy to misread. Three traps catch almost everyone:

  • The index isn’t volume. A line at 100 means “peak for this keyword”, not “lots of searches”. A niche phrase can sit at 100 with very few people behind it.
  • +10,000% is a ceiling, not a measurement. It usually means the search started from almost nothing. Calendar phrases like “happy september 1st” hit it every year and mean nothing for your content.
  • Several trends can be one trend. Boots, coats, outerwear and knitwear all rising 40% the same week isn’t four opportunities. It’s one: layering season.

When to publish: the lead time that matters

People use Pinterest to plan, so searches rise long before the event. Christmas gift ideas start climbing in August and peak in November. Most seasonal topics follow the same pattern, rising a month or two ahead of the date. Publish when the line starts to rise, or a few weeks before. A new pin needs time to be picked up and to collect saves before the peak arrives. Our guide to the best time to post on Pinterest covers days and hours as well.

Pinterest Predicts: the yearly forecast

Pinterest Predicts is a separate, free report Pinterest publishes each December with the trends it expects to grow the following year. The 2026 edition names 21, among them Poetcore, Neo Deco, Scent Stacking and Gimme Gummy, and Pinterest says its calls have been 88% accurate over six years. Use Predicts for the big themes and the Trends tool for timing. A slow-moving Predicts trend like Poetcore (oversized turtlenecks, vintage blazers) shows up in Trends as rising searches you can actually target.

Paste a page and it shows which rising searches fit it. For English it shows monthly volume instead. More options are in our Pinterest keyword tool guide.

Turn a trend into pins

  1. Match it to a page you already have, or one you can write in time. No page, no pin.
  2. Use the trend phrase word for word at the start of the pin title. See our title formulas.
  3. Make two or three pins on related trends from the same chart, a week apart.
  4. Put them on a board named after the trend or the season.
  5. Check Analytics after a month, then make more of whatever is getting saves.

If you’d rather not watch the charts yourself, SiteToSocial’s paid plans build pins on rising searches for each page of your site automatically. That’s one reason it tops our list of Pinterest automation tools. The bigger picture of how trends feed into ranking is in the Pinterest SEO guide.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Pinterest Trends tool?

Pinterest Trends, at trends.pinterest.com, is Pinterest's free tool for seeing what people search, save and shop for on Pinterest and how that changes over time. It charts interest in any keyword over the past year, lists fast-growing searches and shows who is searching by age and gender.

Is Pinterest Trends free?

Yes, Pinterest Trends is free. You sign in with a Pinterest business account, which is also free to set up.

Does Pinterest Trends show search volume?

Not as a monthly number. Its charts show interest indexed from 0 to 100 relative to all searches that week, so you see shape and timing rather than raw volume. For monthly figures, use the keyword planner in Pinterest Ads Manager or SiteToSocial's free keyword tool.

How many keywords can I compare in Pinterest Trends?

Up to four at once on the same chart, which makes it easy to see which phrase is bigger and when each one peaks.

How far ahead should I post seasonal pins?

Start when the Trends line starts to climb, usually 30 to 60 days before the peak and much earlier for big holidays. Christmas gift searches begin rising in August and peak in November.

Which countries does Pinterest Trends cover?

It launched in 2019 with the US only and now covers many more countries and regions. Trends differ by country, so pick the one your audience lives in.

Pinterest Trends or Google Trends: which should I use?

For Pinterest, use Pinterest Trends: Pinterest searches peak earlier and differ from web searches, because people plan ahead there. Google Trends is a useful second opinion for the same topic on the open web.
