Free Pinterest tools can cover almost everything one person does on Pinterest: keyword research, writing pins, designing them, scheduling and reading the results. The trouble is the lists. Plenty of the popular ones still recommend tools that shut down years ago. These 34 work in 2026. We grouped them by job, named the one we’d start with for each, and said what’s actually free.

The short version

  • Keywords: SiteToSocial’s Keyword Tool for monthly search numbers, Pinterest Trends for timing.
  • Pin text: SiteToSocial’s title and description generator, because it starts from a searched keyword.
  • Design: Canva by hand; Adobe Express as a close second.
  • Scheduling: Pinterest’s own scheduler, free up to 30 days ahead.
  • Results: Pinterest Analytics plus Google Analytics.

Every row has its own detailed comparison: see our guides to Pinterest keyword tools, title generators, pin makers and schedulers.

1–6. Keyword research and timing

Start here, because the words decide which searches a pin can appear in. Two of these come straight from Pinterest.

  • 1. Pinterest’s search bar. Type a topic and read the autocomplete, then the colored chips under the results. Live keyword research, straight from the source, but without numbers.
  • 2. Pinterest Trends. How searches rise and fall through the year, by country. Indispensable for seasonal pins; our Pinterest Trends guide shows how to read it.
  • 3. Pinterest Predicts. Pinterest’s yearly report on the trends it expects to grow. Worth a skim each December.
  • 4. SiteToSocial Keyword Tool. Paste a page or a topic and get keywords sorted by monthly Pinterest searches, taken from Pinterest’s ads data for English markets, with Trends data for 16 more languages. Three free uses a day without signing up.
  • 5. KeySearch’s Pinterest keyword tool. Autocomplete-style suggestions with a few free lookups a day.
  • 6. Google Trends. A second opinion on seasonality, from web searches rather than Pinterest searches.

7–12. Writing pins: titles, descriptions, hashtags, alt text

Most free generators write fluent text. The question is whether it’s built on a phrase anyone searches.

  • 7. SiteToSocial Pin Title & Description Generator. Five pins per run, each on a different researched keyword, inside Pinterest’s limits. Our pick for pin text; the reasoning is in our title generator comparison.
  • 8. RecurPost. Free title, description and hashtag generators with a choice of tone; you bring the keyword.
  • 9. RightBlogger. Writes a title and description from a URL, in many languages.
  • 10. Mailmodo. Simple, fast generators for titles, descriptions and board names.
  • 11. Limey. A free alt text generator: upload an image, get a plain description.
  • 12. ChatGPT. Fine for drafts if you give it the keyword and the limits; our ChatGPT prompts for Pinterest show how.

13–20. Designing pins

ToolGood forWhat’s free
13. CanvaDesigning pins from templatesFree plan with thousands of Pinterest templates
14. Adobe ExpressQuick branded pinsFree plan with pin templates
15. PixlrEditing photos in the browserFree editor and pin templates
16. SiteToSocial Pin MakerThree pins from a blog post’s own photos, no editing3 uses a day
17. PhotopeaPhotoshop-style editing, no installFree in the browser, with ads
18. Remove.bgCutting products out of their backgroundFree preview-size downloads
19. Unsplash and PexelsPhotos when you have noneFree stock photos
20. Squoosh and TinyPNGShrinking big files before uploadFree in the browser (TinyPNG has limits)

A word on stock photos: they work, but pins made from your own photos tend to feel more trustworthy, and they match the page people land on. Sizes for every format are in our Pinterest image size guide.

21–24. Profile, boards and checks

  • 21. ContentStudio. Free bio and board name generators with a choice of tone.
  • 22. SiteToSocial Board Name Generator. Ten board names with how often each is searched, plus a description for each.
  • 23. SiteToSocial Pin Preview & SEO Checker. See the pin as the feed shows it and check its text against the limits. Unlimited and free.
  • 24. SiteToSocial Rich Pins Validator. Checks a page’s Rich Pin data, share image and pin blockers, with a fix for each problem. More in our Rich Pins guide.

25–30. Scheduling and automation

  • 25. Pinterest’s scheduler. Build a pin and publish it later, up to 30 days ahead.
  • 26. Pinterest RSS auto-publish. New posts from your claimed website become pins automatically. No design, no keyword research, but free.
  • 27. Buffer. Free for 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each. Clean and simple; you make every pin.
  • 28. Publer. A free plan for 3 accounts; Pinterest needs 100 followers or a claimed website to connect.
  • 29. IFTTT. Free applets such as “new blog post, new pin”. The free tier checks for new items roughly hourly.
  • 30. Zapier. Its free plan can create pins from other apps, within a monthly task limit. For bigger builds see Make and n8n for Pinterest.

31–34. Website and tracking

  • 31. Yoast SEO or Rank Math. Both free WordPress plugins add the Open Graph tags that Rich Pins read.
  • 32. Pinterest Analytics and the Pinterest Tag. Results per pin, and visits and sales from Pinterest on your site.
  • 33. Google Analytics. Shows what Pinterest visitors do on your site: which pages, how long, whether they buy.
  • 34. Google’s Campaign URL Builder. Adds UTM tags to pin links so you can tell campaigns apart.

Which free Pinterest tools do you actually need?

Fewer than this list suggests. A blogger making a few pins a week needs four: a keyword tool, something to write the text, something to make the image and Pinterest’s scheduler. A shop should add the Pinterest Tag and Rich Pins. Everything else is a nice-to-have.

  1. Find the keyword in Pinterest’s search bar, with numbers from a Pinterest keyword tool.
  2. Write the title and description around it, keyword first.
  3. Make the image in Canva or another editor, at 1000 x 1500.
  4. Check it in a pin preview before publishing.
  5. Schedule it in Pinterest, to the board whose name matches the keyword.

Where free tools stop

Done by hand, that routine takes 10 to 20 minutes a pin. Fine for three pins a week. At ten fresh pins a day, what growing accounts tend to post, it’s two to three hours every single day. That’s where a paid tool earns its keep. The one we rank first, SiteToSocial, runs the same five steps for every page of a website for $10 a month; our ranking of the best Pinterest automation tools scores it against 14 alternatives, with the evidence.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best free Pinterest tools?

The best free Pinterest tools depend on the job. For keyword research with real Pinterest search numbers, SiteToSocial's free Keyword Tool and Pinterest Trends; for pin text, SiteToSocial's title and description generator; for design, Canva; for scheduling and results, Pinterest's own scheduler and Analytics.

Are there free tools for Pinterest analytics?

Yes. Pinterest Analytics is free with a business account and shows impressions, saves, outbound clicks and your top pins. Google Analytics, also free, shows what Pinterest visitors do once they reach your website.

Is there a free Pinterest scheduler?

Yes. Pinterest's own pin builder lets you schedule pins up to 30 days ahead at no cost. Buffer's free plan also schedules Pinterest, with 3 channels and 10 queued posts per channel, and Publer has a free plan too.

Is there a free Pinterest keyword tool?

Yes. Pinterest's search bar suggestions and Pinterest Trends are free. For monthly search numbers, SiteToSocial's free Keyword Tool shows them from Pinterest's ads data, 3 times a day without signing up.

Can free Pinterest tools automate posting?

Only partly. Pinterest's RSS auto-publish turns new blog posts into pins for free, and free tiers of Buffer, Publer, IFTTT and Zapier can post a few pins. None of them researches keywords or designs pins; that takes a paid automation tool.

Which free Pinterest tools are best for online shops?

Shops get the most from Pinterest's free catalogs and Pinterest Tag for product pins and sales tracking, a free SEO plugin or store setting that adds product data for Rich Pins, and a keyword tool to name product pins after what people search.

Do I need to connect my Pinterest account to use these tools?

Not for most of them. Keyword tools, text generators, Canva and the image tools need no Pinterest login. Pinterest Analytics, Trends and the scheduler need a free business account, and anything that posts for you connects through Pinterest's official login screen.
